Drug Shipments Sent Through The Mail

Delivery

You know you are old if you spent your childhood daydreaming about being able to mail order the wondrous items that you saw advertised on the backs on cereal boxes. If you sent a certain number of box tops, plus a check or money order for a modest sum of money, you could have a toy that your parents would never have bought for you from a store shelf. Your parents subscribed to mail order catalogs of things they only wished they could buy, whether state-of-the-art fishing gear or framed prints of famous paintings. Today, you can buy almost anything online, whether from vendor websites or ecommerce apps. That is only the least shady part of buying stuff online. People in the know can venture to the dark web and buy the things that no one would dare to buy by the light of day, including but not limited to illicit drugs. Some high profile cases in Florida have hinged on investigations into the online communications of drug sellers, including some with unforgettable screen names, such as OxyMonster and Muhammad_a_lean. Online communications are enough to get a search warrant, but the strongest evidence in a drug trafficking case is usually the presence of illegal drugs in the defendant’s residence. If you are being accused of buying drugs online for the purpose of reselling them, contact a West Palm Beach drug offenses lawyer.

Police Find Candles Filled With Ketamine During Search of Spring Hill Residence

News reports gave few details about the investigation that led up to the search; instead, the story begins in medias res with Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies executing a search warrant at a house on Tiburon Avenue in Spring Hill. They found what they were looking for, namely a package from China that the tenant at the residence had received through the mail; they had expected to find illegal drugs in the package, and they did find them there. What is surprising is how the drugs managed to escape the notice of all the people who had handled the package during its long journey.

The package contained eleven white candles, one of the most boring things you can buy in the mail; when your grandma tells you that her hobby is shopping for candles, she means that she enjoys the in-person interaction at Walmart or that she enjoys the variety of scents and candles that she can buy from the Yankee Candle website. These were colorless, unscented candles, but they were hollow on the inside and stuffed with plastic bags full of small crystalline solids. Testing at a forensics lab revealed that the crystals were ketamine, a controlled substance commonly used in anesthesia and increasingly popular as a recreational drug.
