Lottery Winner Arrested For Assaulting Police Officer During Trip To Florida

LotteryTicket2

If you win the lottery jackpot, the lessons you will learn will be more valuable than anything you buy. Money can’t buy happiness. There is no such thing as a free lunch. Be careful what you wish for. No one is above the law. News stories about lottery winners fall into two categories. Either you read that a certain person has just won the lottery; maybe the winner tells the reporter a vague set of plans about what he or she will do with the money, but they are not very detailed, or else you read about lottery winners self-destructing. For example, the Longform.com website ran the story of a man who won the lottery and started acting like a jerk to everyone he knew, but not until after his granddaughter had used the prize money her grandfather had given her to develop a drug addiction, from which she eventually died. The winner’s wife told the journalist that she wished she had torn up the winning ticket. Never has there been a news story about a lottery winner who used the money to pay the college tuition of multiple extended family members or to pay off an entire town’s medical debt. If you got into legal trouble after a financial windfall, there is someone else out there who has it even worse than you, and the best way to stop your legal problems from getting worse is to contact a West Palm Beach criminal defense lawyer.

Celebratory Visit to Casino Turns Bad

Florida is a vacation spot for visitors from all over the world, and there are vacation activities for every price point. Middle class Brazilians buy tour packages with stops at Sawgrass Mills and the Disney theme parks, where they keep track of each other with their matching T-shirts. French Canadian retirees head to Florida in the fall and stay in modestly priced motels on Hollywood Beach. Meanwhile, celebrities fly to South Beach from all over the world and host fabulous parties. Therefore, when James Farthing of Georgetown, Kentucky won a $167 million jackpot in the Kentucky lottery, he made a beeline for Kentucky.

As if winning a $167 million jackpot were not enough, he went straight to a casino, where his luck ran out. He got into a fistfight with another guest in the hotel lobby, and the police intervened. Farthing allegedly kicked a police officer who tried to break up the fight. Farthing is facing battery charges for the original fight and felony battery assault on an officer and resisting arrest without violence for his altercation with the officer. News sources did not say anything about his bail amount or whether he had entered a plea.
