Credit Card Theft

CreditCardFraud

Some people are outspoken about their caution regarding letting other people know their credit card numbers or bank account numbers. These same people do not hesitate to enter their credit card numbers online and agree to recurring charges when they subscribe to a service. They also do not hesitate to send checks in the mail, where, if someone illegally opened the envelope, that person could find out the sender’s bank account number and routing number. In other words, certain people see our financial information on a regular basis, and their job description requires them not to abuse this privilege. Most of the time, they don’t. If they did, then financial crime would be rampant. Despite this, a substantial portion of financial crimes occur not when people go out of their way to steal financial information by hacking into computers or surreptitiously placing skimming devices on ATMs, but rather when employees mishandle the confidential financial information that they encounter in the normal course of their work. Employee Arrested on Credit Card Theft Charges While Wearing Chuck E. Cheese Costume

Some financial crime cases involve defendants who ostensibly lived a charmed life and gave into the temptation to lay their hands on the riches that surrounded them. A greater number of financial crime defendants cite financial desperation as their motive. The Chuck E. Cheese employee whom police confronted while he was wearing his mouse costume likely falls into the latter category.

In July 2025, police in Tallahassee received a call from a woman who had just noticed fraudulent charges on her credit card, which she had lost earlier that day. The last place she had used the card was at a Chuck E. Cheese restaurant. The police began an investigation and eventually traced the fraudulent transactions to an employee who had been working at the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant that day.

As anyone who has worked as a costumed mascot knows, one can only tolerate the heavy costume for short intervals, even inside an air-conditioned restaurant. Therefore, employees slated to perform as Chuck E. change back and forth between the costume and their regular work uniforms throughout their shift. When the police arrived, they found the defendant in his Chuck E. Cheese costume, greeting customers. They asked him to come outside with them, but he refused, and they eventually handcuffed him and led him outside. According to The Guardian news website, police found the missing credit cards in the defendant’s possession. He is facing criminal charges for credit card theft and for making at least two fraudulent transactions on a credit card within a period of six months.
